Trial of Barmek officials starts

30 April 2007 [13:58] - TODAY.AZ
Trial on case of president of Barmek Azerbaijan Electricity Distribution LLC Huseyn Arabul and seven more company officials, who are accused of abuse of power, embezzlement and negligence of court verdicts, started at Court of Grave Crimes.

Judge Hajiyev said that a document on treatment of Chingiz Ibadov in the medical centre of Justice Ministry Penitentiary Service was submitted to the court.

Asef Mammadov, lawyer for Ibadov petitioned for commuting his defendant's imprisonment.

Abbas Atakishi, lawyer for Huseyn Arabul petitioned for ending the criminal case on Chingiz Ibadov, taking into account that Ibadov is involved in the criminal case on former Economic Development Minister Ferhad Aliyev and a man can not participate in two criminal cases simultaneously.

Public prosecutor Abdulla Yusifov considered it possible to continue the trial without Ibadov's participation. Following this, the court staff announced break to debate on the petitions.

According to the court's decision, criminal case was suspended until Ibadov's treatment is over, his case will be investigated separately, and the decision on his arrest has not been commuted.

Protesting to the court's decision Huseyn Arabul petitioned for filing an appeal against the decision.

The judge noted that it is impossible to file an appeal against the court's decision at present.

Atakishi asked a day to protest to the court composition in written form.

The process will continue on May 1.

Huseyn Arabul faced charges on Article 179.3.2 (embezzlement), 308.2 (abuse of power) and 313 and banned from leaving the country. Barmek high-ranking officers Omar Guner Ismayil, Vefa Agayev, Mahir Novruzov, Chingiz Ibadov, Vaaleh Zeynalov, Chingiz Abdullayev, Esger Esgerzadeh were held accountable on articles 179.3.2, 308.2 and 313 of the Criminal Code and arrested.
