Azerbaijan improving legal framework for economic migrants

28 April 2007 [10:41] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan's Ministry for Labor and Social Protection are working out proposals to improve the legal framework for regulation of the issues related to economic immigration and illegal aliens.

The ministry officer for employment policy and demographic issues, Vahab Mammadov, told APA-Economics that the package would legalize labor of foreigners and strengthen the controls process.

"The efforts are not aimed at imposing limitations on labor of foreign workers. We want to attract highly-qualified specialists to the country and guarantee the transparency. Like other countries, foreigner seeking a job in Azerbaijan should pass the relevant registration procedure to work legally. At the first stage, we are working to increase awareness. We are holding discussions with foreign companies and embassies for legal employment of aliens. If they have desire to work in Azerbaijan, we are ready to help them legalize their employment," he added.

Mammadov noted that the ministry is working on data base for foreign immigrants.
