Baku hosts meeting of TAE project on Baku-Aktau Segment

20 April 2007 [08:56] - TODAY.AZ
Baku hosts the two-day meeting of Trans-Asia-Europe (TAE) international fiber-optic cable line projects on Baku-Aktau segment. TAE member states and leading operators of regional countries attend the meeting.

Azerbaijan's International Communication and Accounting Center Director Jalil Jafarov noted that the construction of TAE's TransCaspian segment is of great importance for Azerbaijan which has strategical significance in the region.

"The main target of Azerbaijan is to turn our state to transit country. That is why we should implement the construction of Azerbaijan-Kazakhstan submerged cable," he underscored.

Jafarov noted that the implementation of the project is problematic. "This line links Europe and Asia via Azerbaijan and Iran. But unfortunately, the other routs linking Europe and Asia activated more," the official underlined.

Jalil Jafarov said they intend to implement this project and it is necessary to inform all the operators on this issue. APA-Economics
