Turkmen gas may bypass Russia

16 March 2007 [17:15] - TODAY.AZ
There is an increasing possibility that Turkmen hydrocarbons may reach Europe bypassing Russia.

A delegation from the consortium MottMcDonald Ltd (UK), Kantor Management Consultants (Greece), KLC Law Firm (Greece) and ASPI Consulting Engineers (Azerbaijan) have visited Turkmen capital Ashgabat.

The consortium has a contract with the European Commission linked with the INOGATE programme (Interstate Oil and Gas Transport to Europe).

The programme aims to improve the security and integration of the natural gas pipeline network in the states of the former Soviet Union, facilitating the transport of oil and gas towards the export markets of Europe. The main purpose of the visit to Ashgabat was to determine what opportunities exist to transport Turkmen natural gas via Azerbaijan and Georgia to Europe, reports the news agency Regnum.
