Most Azeris unaware of what SOFAZ was established for

Up-to-now results of a poll called People's expectations for petrodollars and their spending in Azerbaijan, commissioned by Entrepreneurship & Market Economy Development Assistance Foundation and carried out by Puls-R through funding from US Eurasia Foundation, was released.

Political scientist Rasim Musabayov said the results came from a four-month period of the ten-month survey.

"During the poll 1,000 respondents were surveyed in 15 regions of Azerbaijan," he said.

52.4% of respondents said they heard about the State Oil Foundation (SOFAZ), but don't know what it was established for, 37% replied they have general info about how petrodollars are spent, 49.4% answered they have not sufficient knowledge about how oil revenues are flowing into the country, 47.7% responded they have not enough information about how oil incomes are spent and 41.9% said they believe the published data about oil and gas volumes, incomes and spending, APA reports.

43.5% of the surveyed expressed belief that inflow of oil revenues is likely to help Azerbaijan overcome most of the difficulties,  68.8% voiced deep concern about unsolved conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia, 70.2% suggested that oil money should be used to strengthen the army to liberate the occupied lands, 31.3% said influx of increasing oil incomes will push up corruption in the country, 40.8% suggested that influential public figures should participate in management of the SOFAZ, 3.7% expressed belief that the welfare will soon improve in the country, 47% said their living standard is likely to be better in the future and 33.7% insisted improvement of their living conditions don't depend on the increase of oil revenues and how the incomes are spent.
