Natig Aliyev: "Azerbaijan refuses Russian gas"

27 December 2006 [12:51] - TODAY.AZ
"Azerbaijan's giving no answer to Gazprom in negotiations on Russian gas imports to Azerbaijan means refusing Russian gas supplies," stated Azerbaijan's Industry and Energy Minister Natig Aliyev.

He told APA bilateral talks between Azerbaijani and Russian energy officials held in Moscow were unsuccessful and fruitless.

"As per the current agreement, Azerbaijan can import Russian gas by January 1. The agreement is expiring at that date. The agreement has not yet been renewed and this is a sign that Azerbaijan has refused to import Russian gas from January 1.

"I personally think that the Government of Azerbaijan will not buy Russian gas," he said.

Natig Aliyev added that Azerbaijan conducts no talks with Iran on natural gas issue at present.
