Azerbaijan to cover 70% of Georgia's demand for gas

23 December 2006 [01:16] - TODAY.AZ
"Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz gas will cover 70% of Georgia's gas needs in 2007," Georgian Premier Zurab Nogaideli told a media briefing after the government session.

"All the legal and technical issues have been settled. Azerbaijan is becoming Georgia’s major gas supplier for 2007," he said.

He said that Energy Minister Nika Gilauri, visiting Turkey, is about to end talks over provision of some part of Turkish quota to Georgia.

Georgia's annual demand for natural gas is 1.8bn cubic meters, of which 70% makes some 1.26bn cu m.

3 billion cubic meters of Shah Deniz gas will flow via Baku-Erzurum pipeline. In 2007 Georgia is expected to receive 0.3bn cu meters of gas as transit (customs) fees, and plus 0.8bn cu m from Turkish share, APA reports.
