Turkey, Israel OK energy corridor

14 December 2006 [22:04] - TODAY.AZ
Turkey and Israel have agreed to set up an energy corridor that will carry to Israel oil from Baku, Azerbaijan, via Ceyhan, Turkey.

The Anatolia news agency reported Wednesday that the plan foresees the building of water and natural gas pipelines between the two countries, along with an electricity power line.

Following a meeting between Turkish Minister of Energy Hilmi Guler and Israeli Minister of Infrastructures Binyamin Ben Eliezer in Jerusalem, the two sides agreed on starting preliminary feasibility works for the project. This process is expected to take six months, the news agency said.

The project envisions the transfer of water, natural gas and crude through pipelines and electricity through power lines to Israel. Oil, it is hoped, will then be carried to India, China and Japan from Israel on oil tankers.

The two countries are expected to sign an agreement on the project, Anatolia said. UPI
