Georgian, Azeri, Turkish Energy Ministers meeting with President Saakashvili

The high-profile meeting of Energy Ministers of Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey began at 12pm in Courtyard Marriott and last till 18pm.

The Energy Ministers are now meeting with President Mikhail Saakashvili. After the closed-door meeting they made absolutely no comments and are now expected to talk to public after meeting with President Saakashvili.

The energy ministers of the three countries gathered in Tbilisi to consider redistributing gas supplies carried by Shah-Deniz pipeline. They also discussed the region's energy security and cooperation issues.

"Georgia, Azerbaijan and Turkey are to resort to new approaches as the energy policy is going tougher in the region," Minister of Energy and Industry of Azerbaijan Natig Alyev said on the eve of the trilateral ministerial meeting in Tbilisi Friday.

"Russia's decision to hike the gas price and reduce gas exports[to Azerbaijan] has created some challenges to the energy security of the region. Therefore, we are to apply new approaches to deal with them," Natig Alyev said.

The two-day meeting is to finally define the volume of gas Georgia will receive from the pipeline in addition to 250m cubic meter gas assigned in transit fees.
