New cement prices to be become effective from January

09 December 2006 [00:49] - TODAY.AZ
The Government of Azerbaijan and Garadagh Cement are seeking for precautions to thwart increasing cement prices in the domestic market, Economic Development Minister Heydar Babayev said after meeting with Garadagh Cement management.

He said the new price to be set together with producers, distributors and dealers will be effective January 1, 2007.

"We have been negotiating with Holcim Holding for six months. The prices went up in February while Garabagh Cement didn't change the price. Our measures went ineffective, now we want the sale to be open and transparent," he said, APA reports.

He said Garadagh Cement has chosen seven distributors in Baku and Absheron. The distributors will choose 112 dealers. No one will be allowed to increase the prices artificially.

"Distributorship status will be voided if any irregularities are found. We call on people to report to the Antimonopoly Department of the Ministry when they see expensive cement," he said, saying Garadagh Cement Co. will keep the prices under control.

Holcim Holding CIS Coordinator Garesh Babbs said that other countries adjacent Azerbaijan also face cement problems. He said that the EBRD will finance expansion of production capacity of Garadagh Cement.

Expansion of the annual capacity to 2m tons will take spend over 300m euro and five years.
The prices of Garadagh Cement products, including VAT, at the plant, are the following:

Garadagh Spesial bags: AZN 85.55 / ton (AZN 4.28 / bag)

Garadagh Optimal bags: AZN 69.45 / ton (AZN 3.47 / bag)
