Azerbaijan substitutes Russian electricity by Iran

24 November 2006 [16:41] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan has started negotiating with Iran on electrical energy because Russia increase prices to some 4.4 cents, Azerenergy President Etibar Pirverdiyev said.

He said that Azerbaijan and Iran have agreed on energy exchange.

"The agreement excludes any payment. Azerbaijan will transfer electricity to Iran through Parsabad supply line and in summer and receive energy through the same line in winter. This is beneficial for both Azerbaijan and Iran," he said.

He said that Russia has problems with electricity, APA reports.

"Russia informed Azerbaijan of reducing electricity in 2007 because it is capable of transferring over monthly 30m KW of energy in winter," he said.

Azerbaijan has been importing electrical supplies from Russia since 2001.

"The agreement expires late this month. And we received 700m KW of energy," he underscored.
