Paris Court meets Azerbaijan's claim against FIM Bank

10 November 2006 [19:55] - TODAY.AZ
Paris Court today reviewed Azerbaijani ministry's request on the lifting of the arrest of its share in Eutelsut Company of France.

Azerbaijan's Communications and Information Technologies Ministry (ACITM) Lawyer Bakhtiyar Mammadov told APA that the Court has met the request of Azerbaijan.

The Court also met Azerbaijan's claim on damages in the order of EUR 5 000 plus, EUR 900 for arbitration expenditure.

A French Court seized the stocks on the false documents submitted to the court by FIM Bank of Malta.

The Government of Azerbaijan filed a request to claim damages in the order of $150 000.
FIM Bank raised a claim of $6.5mln against Azerbaijan in 2004.

The reason was that Pochtbank obtained credit from FIM Bank and showed in the contract that the Ministry would repay the credit if it couldn't.

The Ministry said that it had been unaware of that contract. In connection with this row, 500,000 stocks of Azerbaijan in Eutelsut Company (France) and share worth 1.1 million in Intelsut Company, Bermuda were under arrest.

On Dec.18 Rotterdam Court will review the row and foreign witnesses will bear testimony at the trial.
