Azerbaijani Company to repair strategic pipeline in Georgia

SOCAR associate company Khazardenizneftgaztikinti and Geoengineering is implementing repair works on main gas pipeline in Georgia, spokesmen of Azerbaijani embassy in Georgia, Elkhan Polukhov stated.

He said it is the first time that Azerbaijani and Georgian companies are cooperating in a project, APA reports.

"I believe Georgian specialists and nationals will be employed in the project. Azerbaijani specialists will be involved in the repair of some special parts of the pipeline," he said.

Millennium Challenge Georgia Fund (MCG) informs that US $49.5m has been earmarked for reconstruction of the pipeline. Besides, Azerbaijan will lend US $4.7m for the project.

As per the agreement, the repair of the gas pipeline has to be completed in 120 days.

The repair is expected to reduce gas loss to 2% from 5%.

Millennium Challenge Georgia Fund (MCG) lashi Shanidze said the repair and reconstruction will annually prevent gas loss of 300m cubic meters worth $30m.
