Grain price to cut bread weight in Azerbaijan

02 November 2006 [16:37] - TODAY.AZ
The rise of grain price is not expected to result in bread price rise but cut of its weight, Agriculture Ministry's Grain Reserve Officer Mammad Huseynov stated.

He said the price of grain has rose to 600-700 old manats from 550 manats.

"The tendency will be more noticeable in pre-winter period because the farmers' reserve is increasing. The price rise is observed not only in Azerbaijan but also in other countries in this period," he said.

He said it shouldn't be considered as crisis because everything is under control.

The Cabinet Finance and Credit Policy officer Ogtay Hagverdiyev told APA that the Government doesn’t discuss bread price.

"The Government doesn't control bread price, the price takes care of itself. Flour price can jump in Azerbaijan if the wheat price rises in the world. But, I don’t think this case can result in the increase of bread price but the decrease of bread weight," he underscored.
