Parliament considers loan agreement with OPEC Fund for International Development

The meeting of the Milli Majlis standing commission on natural resources, energy and ecology issues held October 19 focused "Loan Agreement between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the OPEC Fund for International Development on Samur-Absheron Irrigation System Project."

Valeh Alaskarov, deputy MM chairman, head of the commission said the loan agreement was signed March 21, 2006 in Vienna. According to him, construction of the Valvalachay-Takhtakorpu canal and Takhtakorpu reservoir will notably improve water supply of Baku, its surrounding villages as well as Absheron peninsular.

The total value of the project is $42.6 million.

After commission members gave their recommendations and expressed their opinions they decided to submit the document to Milli Majlis's consideration. AzerTAg
