Natig Aliyev: "Azerbaijan not to hurry to set gas price with Russia"

12 October 2006 [13:15] - TODAY.AZ
The first Shah Deniz gas will be produced in December, Azerbaijani industry and energy minister Natig Aliyev said.

He said this milestone will allow Azerbaijan to reach an additional gas source, APA reports. "Azerbaijan will use its own gas besides Russian and Iran gas next year," he said.

The minister said Azerbaijan shouldn't hurry to set the gas price with Russia. "Azerbaijan is watching happenings in Russia and Europe as well as Russia's talks with other countries."

The price Russia will offer for Ukraine as well as Belarus and Moldova is extremely interesting for Azerbaijan. "Azerbaijan will continue to import Russian gas in 2007 if the price is reasonable for Azerbaijan. If not, Azerbaijan may refuse Russian gas. Azerbaijan has enough alternatives," he underscored.
