Riga to host Azerbaijan-Lithuania business forum

The participation of more than 60 businessmen engaged in a wide range of economy sector and official persons from both sides are due to take part in business forum, Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) announced.

Within the framework of the forum, the direct talks with businessmen of both sides are scheduled to be held.

Within the framework of official visit of President of Lithuania Vaira Vike-Freiberg to Azerbaijan October 4 last year, the memorandum on cooperation between businessmen was signed in the business forum with the participation of 150 Azerbaijani and more than 50 Lithuanian businessmen.

Up to day, nearly 10 contracts and agreements have been signed between Azerbaijan and Lithuania on "Encouragement and Protection of Investment," "Exemption of double taxation," "Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation" involving all fields of economy.

In Jan-July 2006, the total trade turnover between the two countries made up USD 6,6 million twice more than that of same period last year.

Basically, ginned cotton, diesel oil, polymeric substances and other goods are exported to Lithuania from Azerbaijan, while mainly medicinal facilities, milk products and various equipments from Lithuania to Azerbaijan.
