Azeri state oil company to invest in Georgia

23 September 2006 [01:01] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR plans to implement new investment projects soon, a source from the company said.

The SOCAR Energy Georgia open joint-stock company, co-founded by the Azeri company, has been established in the neighboring country. SOCAR intends to invest in various economic projects in Georgia by means of the new enterprise.

Initially, a network of retail sales of oil products is to be set up. Furthermore, SOCAR Energy Georgia will found its own companies in this country. First, the existing gas-filling stations selling fuel with SOCAR brand will be purchased, as well as new ones built. However, Georgia's legislation should be studied first to explore the existing opportunities, the company said.

SOCAR may also invest in other sectors of the Georgian economy in the future. AssA-Irada
