SOCAR to tap Caspian field on its own

23 September 2006 [00:59] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan's state oil company SOCAR plans to tackle development of the Karabakh field in the Caspian Sea at its own expense, oil executives say.

A platform will be installed and wells drilled on the field, according to the company's first vice-president Khoshbakht Yusifzade.

"Tapping the field is very profitable considering the current prices on oil," he said.
Yusifzade said that although foreign companies are interested in the operations, SOCAR will work independently on the field.

$200m will be invested in the operations. Depending on oil prices in world markets, Azerbaijan will acquire up to $1bn in revenue from the Karabakh field, Yusifzada said. AssA-Irada
