19 September 2006 [14:27] - TODAY.AZ
Today Caspian Integration Business Club members met with Salim Muslumov, chair of State Social Protection Fund.

Club president and executive director Telman Aliyev briefed the participants about the Club, APA reports.

He said the aim of the meeting is to prepare for meeting with President Ilham Aliyev. He said Ilham Aliyev is an honorary chair of the club.

Addressing the meeting, Mr. Muslumov said improvement of pension and insurance system is ongoing. Some 180 000 people received social pension up to last year.

"Today they are not pensioners. They receive benefits from the state. Today pensioner means a labor pensioner, civil service pensioner or military pensioner."

He said people could artificially exaggerate their salary during soviet period and early 1990s in order to receive higher pension.

"Local officials gave them reference on the alleged high salary of them. We worked out a law on labor pension to prevent the irregularities. But now if the data about a pensioner is changed in local departments, the new system sends information to the center."

He said 1.1mn old pension items remained unsolved, but the data base will be improved and made electronic soon.

Mr. Muslumov was awarded a honorary member of the club.
