Government subsidizes US $25mn to local authorities in 6 years

The government donated 110bn manats (US $23-25mn) to local authorities in 2000-2005 after 1999 first local elections.

Mehdi Salimzadeh, Justice Ministry center affair with local authorities head told the APA according to Azerbaijan legislation state grants aids to local authorities, but this aid is in the form of subsidy and has not appointment. He said they spend this money on their own problems- construction of water pipes, roads, repairing of buildings, buying technical equipments and paying salaries of workers.

"Local authorities spend money on irrelevant spheres. It comes from local authority head's interest," he said.

Salimzadeh also said financial aid is the state care for local authorities, and he hopes the government will raise the grant due to the rise in state budget.
