Natig Aliyev: "Number of Russian oil companies are keen on BTC"

Oil production will hit 50mn tonnes per day in 2008 in Azerbaijan. The production will be 30.5 mn tonnes this year and it will reach 47 mn tonnes next year, Natig Aliyev, Industry and Energy Minister, said.

He said that number of Russian companies are very keen on joining the BTC but no companies have joined yet, APA reports.

"The capacity of the pipeline is limited. Maximally, it can carry 1.8 mn barrels a day. If Kazakhstan agrees to transport 500 barrels a day through this pipeline, others will not be able to join the pipeline."

He also said that Kazakhstan will not be able to transport oil through the pipeline either if Azerbaijan transports all extracted oil through the pipeline. It is planned to start expanding the capacity of the pipeline after Kazakhstan takes commitment of participation on itself.

"As to the corrosion of the BTC, this case is possible in every part of the world but the BTC meets the highest standards."
