Delegation of State Customs Committee will visit Estonia

Delegation from the State Customs Committee together with representatives from Presidential Administration, Cabinet of Ministers, Parliament, Ministry of Justice and UNDP will be leaving or a study visit to Estonia Tax and Customs Board (ETCB) August 8-14.

The delegation consisting of 15 persons will be led by the Deputy Chairman of the State Customs Committee of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The purpose of the Study Visit is to examine the experience of the Estonian Republic in implementation of the European Customs Code.

In addition the Study visit will contribute to identifying the changes required to the existing policies and procedures of SCC together with the Information technology Implications for implementing the revised Customs Code for Azerbaijan which is currently under the development.

It is also intended that Study Group will visit Muuga Port to examine the latest development.

The Study Visit is being implemented within framework of the joint project of the European Commission and United Nations Development Program for "Modernization of Customs Services in Azerbaijan".

Funded by EC ad implemented by UNDP, the one-year project was launched in January, 2006.

Aimed at modernizing the customs service in the country, the 900 000 EUR project envisages the upgrading of customs legislation in conformity with modern international standards, in particular the EU Customs Code, and support in implementation of the SCC strategy on the development of information technologies.

The development of the customs service is an important tool to strengthen investor confidence in Azerbaijan and boost foreign trade with the country.

The study visit will assist in strengthening relationship between Azerbaijan and Estonia in te customs are allowing new perspectives in future cooperation between the two national customs organizations, customs developments internationally as well as related areas.

Within the framework of the visit meetings will be held with high level officials of ETCB as well as Director General of ETCB, APA reports.
