Barmek gives-up working in Azerbaijan

Although Barmek announced stop of its activity in Azerbaijan yesterday after unilateral cancellation of the agreement, it will continue services by giving up all works.

Barmek President Huseyn Arabul told press conference today that he decided to hold this press conference after Heydar Babayev made a statement yesterday, APA reports.

Mr. Arabul said that activities of the company have been completely transparent for 5-year period he worked in Azerbaijan. He also expressed his satisfaction with the customers.

"I very much love them and I see their support up to today."

Mr. Arabul noted that customers have to continue to pay their debts as this money will be transferred to the company's account. Mr. Arabul also touched cancellation of the agreement.

"It was demanded of us that we sign "Cancellation of the Agreement" or prosecutor’s office and police will persecute Barmek by investigation. Our Company could struggle but I gave up for protecting my honor. Continuation of this struggle could yield bad results. I didn’t see law and justice here."

He said that he gave a statement and was interrogated by the law enforcement bodies for 182 hours.

Saying he has invested $67mn 350 thousand in Azerbaijan, Mr. Arabul added that he has not yet calculated the amount of compensation Azerbaijani government has to pay.

He said that Barmek doesn’t want to meet with the fate of Saka-Gorkmaz. "If they settle the problem correctly, I am not interested in Saka-Gorkmaz."

Mr. Arabul said that although he doesn’t know what company will replace Barmek, but they are ready to give the new company the program for improving power supply system of Baku and Sumgait.

He said that this process can affect the investors wanting to come to Azerbaijan.

"Of course, this process ca influences the investment climate. If there is laws and justice here, investors will come."

He said that he wanted to meet with the Azerbaijani president but couldn’t still and has not yet asked Turkish government for help.

"We have never asked anybody to defend our rights and never will."
