Georgia hesitates to repay debt for electricity

11 March 2006 [09:40] - TODAY.AZ
Georgia hesitates to repay a debt for electricity received from Azerbaijan in 1998 and volume of the neighboring country's debt is 32 million KWh.

According to the Azerenergy vice-president Marlen Asgarov, the reason of it is that the power supply system of Georgia was transmitted to management of US and Russian companies in different times.

"Now because there are no legitimate heirs of those companies in Georgia, we do not know who to demand our debt from. The Georgian government says they will investigate and repay the debt," Mr.Asgarov said.

Mr.Asgarov noted that additional 5 million KWh of electricity delivered to Georgia during the power crisis occurred in January this year would be repaid in monetary form.
