Card system introduced in Metro

02 March 2006 [09:20] - TODAY.AZ
Non-cash payment system is introduced in the Baku Metro starting from yesterday.

As APA reports, starting from March 1, passengers will be able to use microchip-cards to pay fare in all stations of the Metro. Citizens must pay AZN 2 for microchip cards and then can load unlimited amount of passes into cards. However, at least 10 passes each of AZM 250 (5 kopecks) must be loaded into a microchip card.

64 turnstiles produced by the Lot Company of Ukraine have been installed in the Metro stations so far for transition to the microchip card system. 132 more turnstiles will be purchased from that Company this year.

The total cost of the contract providing purchase, installation, software support of turnstiles is about $2 million. Purchasing of 1 turnstile costs the Baku Metro approximately $5-6 thousand.
