110 mln kWh of Green Energy has been produced in Kalbajar and Lachin

15 July 2023 [10:35] - TODAY.AZ

As of today, a total of 110 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of green energy have been generated at 11 small hydropower plants reconstructed and restored by Azerenergy in 2020-2023, Azernews reports.

The process of energy generation at these small hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 53 megawatts, locating on full-flowing rivers in the Kalbajar and Lachin regions, is two times more productive and cheaper than at 13 small hydroelectric power plants with a total capacity of 74 megawatts locating other regions in Azerbaijan.

In accordance with the instructions of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Azerenergy reconstructed and restored hydroelectric power plants, in 11 places in the territories liberated, and work at hydroelectric power plants in 7 places in Kalbajar, Lachin, and Zangilan, the construction of which is ongoing, will be completed in the coming months.

In addition, the construction of hydroelectric power plants has begun in 9 more settlements in Kalbajar and Lachin. In order to keep environmental standards derivational pipes are installed parallel to the river flow, taking into account the provision of 50% of the river flow at each of the hydroelectric power plants, and the water leaving the pipe is returned to the river. Ubiquitously for rational using water resources, to prevent floods and water loses water intakes are built along the river.

European-made Eco turbines are installed on the river, which automatically regulate the volume of ecological flow and automatically stop when the volume of water is low to protect the environment. At the same time in agreement with the relevant state structures, during construction, special attention is paid to the protection of the natural environment, flora and fauna.

Overall the total power of 27 hydroelectric power plants reconstructed by Azerenergy, which will be built and put into operation in the near future, will approach 200 MW, and as a result, 600 million kilowatt/hours of clean green energy will be produced per year.
