"Energy exchange between Azerbaijan & Russia - requirement of two independent energy systems for each other," said Marlen Asgarov, Azerenerji Vice-President.

Every year Azerenerji JSC purchases approximately 3bn KW/H and sale 1bn KW/H. "Energy exchange between Azerbaijan and Russia is not only tribute to the long-term traditions, but requirement of two independent energy systems for each other," said Marlen Asgarov, Trend reports referring to a news release spread by Azerenerji. "The both countries are equally interested in the partnership," he added.

The energy exchange between the Azerbaijani and Russian energy systems is carried out via 330-KV electricity transmission lines, connecting the substations Yashma, Azerbaijan, and Darband, Russia. In 2005 overhaul reconstruction was carried out at the Yashma station, old equipment was replaced by new one to improve quality of energy exchange.

At present Azerbaijani and Russian project institutes develop feasibility of laying of the second Yashma-Darband electricity transmission line to double capacity of energy exchange. This line is considered as one of the key part of the regional project on establishment of Russia-Azerbaijan-Iran energy corridor.

"Azerbaijan successfully strengthens ties and increase capacity of energy exchange with neighbor countries. It also draws up projects on export of energy and transit through its territory. Russia as traditional and reliable partner remains one of priority and perspective vectors of cooperation," he stressed.
