Last year export and import of Azerbaijan increased by 20% and 19.5% respectively

Positive balance in amount of $146483.6 thousand occurred in foreign trade turnover of Azerbaijan last year. Volume of export and import operations increased by 20.23% and 19.46% respectively, in comparison with 2004.

As APA reports, Azerbaijan implemented trade operations in volume of $8547276 thousand with 137 countries last year and 2102 varieties of goods amounting to $436879.2 thousand were exported and 5740 varieties of goods amounting to $4200396.2 thousand imported in the period under review. In addition, 17890.4 tons of goods in amount of $44222.2 thousand entered the country as disinterested aids by means of state, government and international organizations, humanitarian freight and technical aids. Goods amounting to $55015.6 thousand were exported from Azerbaijan and goods amounting to $400027.6 thousand imported to Azerbaijan in temporary mode.

It should be noted that the share of the state sector in export operations formed $2499965.2 thousand, share of private sector $1731771.9 thousand, and share of physical persons $115142.7 thousand. This indicator is $940726 thousand in the state sector, $3003957.5 thousand in private sector and $255712.7 thousand for physical persons in import operations.
Last year the highest level in export operations ($1202710.4 thousand) was registered in October and lowest level ($109057.8 thousand) in January.

The highest level in import operations ($582686.8 thousand) was registered in January and lowest level ($265298.2 thousand) in February. Average monthly growth speed was $8990.1 thousand in export and average monthly reduction $16683.3 thousand import.

According to the information given from SCC, 51.04% of goods in the structure of export were crude oil (98% more compared with 2004), 3.97% fruits and vegetables (375.4% more), 3.03% chemical industry produce (171.36% more), 25.07% oil produce (156.14% more), 1.57% vegetable and animal oil (141.82% more), 1.23% aluminum and products made of it (109.58% more), 1.02% ferrous metal and products made of it (97.34% more), 0.93% cotton (113.61% more), 0.59% tobacco and tobacco goods (208.66% more), 0.22% alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks (219.48% more), and 11.32% other goods.

As to import, 33.27% of it was cars, electrics, equipments, electrical devices and their spare parts (128.81% more compared with 2004), 10.27% ferrous and nonferrous metal and products made of it (77.73% more), 9.97% transport means and their spare parts (173.08% more), 8.31% food products (92.26% more), 6.6% petroleum gas and other hydrocarbons similar to gas (109.76% more), 1.64% consumer goods (111.95% more), 1.22% timber and products made of it (132.90% more), 0.75% pharmaceutical produce (114.20%), 0.7% furniture (101.82% more), and 27.28% other goods.

Countries to which Azerbaijan exported most volume of goods in the period under review were Italy ($1315740.98 thousand), France ($406534.96 thousand) and Russia ($285370.43 thousand). Countries from which most volume of goods was imported are Russia ($717079.54 thousand), Singapore ($384739.11 thousand) and Great Britain ($383620.16 thousand).

It should be noted that 3578 juridical and 7726 physical persons engaged in foreign trade in 2005.
