Scheme of compensation for savings to be submitted to the President soon

Azerbaijani government is going to pay back for savings of citizens put in banks in Soviet period less than a US dollar per each Soviet ruble. Working group on the preparation for return of the savings held its last meeting on January 25.

As ANS reports, number of depositors and amount of savings in banks were specified at the meeting held with participation of Finance and Economic Development Ministers, Estate Committee and "Capitalbank" management and the National Bank representatives.

The number is shown 1 million 986 thousand 104 including died persons who had savings in the banks. The total amount of the savings is calculated about 4, 8 billion Soviet rubles. The government also studied practice of different CIS countries to make indexation of the savings. Finance Ministry proposed the compensation should be paid in US dollar.

The savings may be as well compensated by securities. But experts exclude it as an optimal and real variant. The final scheme for the compensation will be submitted to the President being approved at the meeting by the Prime Minister on upcoming days.

Privileged persons such as war veterans, families of martyrs, disabled as well as old men are shown in the draft to get the compensation first. The general program on the compensation covers 8 years' period.
