Employees of of "Salyan oil" held protection strike

Yestyerday workers of "Salyan oil" Operation Company have held 3-hour protest action demanding pay rise.
APA was informed of it by chairman of Committee for Protection Oilmen's Rights Mirvari Qahramanli.

The chairman of the Committee said that, the action involved nearly 200 workers. A declaration was adopted in the end. Workers' demands on pay rise should be met by March 14, the declaration says.

The worker will stop working completely if their demands are not met by the administration. The action participants informed APA that, they held strikes demanding pay rise and better working conditions for several times in the end of last year. The administration of the company promised them to raise their salaries from January 1 in 2005. But the administration didn't keep its promise.

"We had to strike again. This is a warning action. If our salaries are not raised by March 14, we shall start the actions again. "The company confirmed the information about the workers' strike. APA was informed from the   center of department of relations with public that, the workers gathered in the yard of the company and applied to the administration. "We have not got familiar with the appeal yet. That is why we consider it is early to express any opinions whether the demands will be met."

It was also informed from the company that, the workers salaries were raised from January 1.But the workers were not paid the increased amount. The reason is due to the incompletion of accounting. "It caused dissatisfaction. But it is not possible to account and pay 850 workers' salaries on the same day..."
