The improvement of Azerbaijan's position in the World Bank’s Doing Business 2019 report is primarily associated with deep institutional transformations and fundamental reforms that have been systematically carried out over the past three years, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Elshad Mammadov told Trend.

He noted that the improvement of economic indicators in Azerbaijan was largely due to the implementation of such important projects as ASAN xidmet, ASAN imza, and in general, increased access of citizens to small and medium-sized businesses.

"To this end, a purposeful state policy was carried out to improve the institutional component of the Azerbaijani economy. As a result, access to government services and communications was significantly improved, and fiscal services became more accessible for business participants," Mammadov said.

Azerbaijan has significantly improved its positions in the World Bank Group's Doing Business ranking.

Thus, Azerbaijan ranks 25th among 190 countries in Doing Business 2019, while it was 57th in Doing Business 2018.

According to Doing Business 2019, Azerbaijan has entered the list of countries with the most noticeable improvement in the economy.

Doing Business authors said that Azerbaijan has carried out a record number of reforms aimed at simplifying doing business in 2017-2018 among 10 economies that have shown significant improvement.

Doing Business is annually published by the World Bank Group, which assesses regulatory standards in entrepreneurial activity.

Azerbaijan joined the WB Group in 1992.
