Azerbaijan Industrial Corporation (AIC) is preparing a strategy to expand aluminum production.

Kamran Nabizade, the corporation’s director general, told reporters that currently, the Ganja Aluminum Plant annually produces 50,000-55,000 tons of aluminum products, mainly aluminum ingots and sheets.

He went on to say that the strategy to which foreign specialists are involved, includes, in particular, the development of the Ganja Aluminum Plant, the creation of an anode block plant in perspective, and an increase in aluminum production to 100,000-110,000 tons per year.

Azerbaijan Industrial Corporation was established in November 2017. The corporation brings unites a number of state-owned enterprises, including those operating in the fields of agriculture, tourism, and the metallurgical industry. The main task of the corporation is to modernize the management systems of these enterprises, increase their profitability, transparency, etc.

Aluminum is the most common metal on the Earth, it accounts for more than 8 percent of the total mass of the earth's crust, and it is the third most common chemical element on our planet after oxygen and silicon.

Aluminium is not found in nature in its pure form due to its high chemical activity. Formally, aluminum was discovered only in 1824, and half a century passed before its industrial production began.

Aluminum has a rare combination of valuable properties. It is one of the lightest metals in nature: it is almost three times lighter than iron, but it is durable, extremely plastic and does not corrode, as its surface is always covered with a very thin but very strong oxide film. It is not magnetized, it conducts electricity perfectly and forms alloys with almost all metals.

The aluminum industry is most developed in Ganja and Sumgait. It includes the stages of production of aluminum oxide and aluminum.
