The State Customs Committee (SCC) of Azerbaijan intends to strengthen the fight against the abuse of the rules of import by individuals of goods not designed for production and commercial purposes, Deputy Chairman of the SCC Igbal Babayev told reporters.

He noted that some citizens of Azerbaijan use simplified possibilities of border crossing for their personal purposes and even cross the border several times a day, carrying mainly the excisable goods (tobacco products and alcoholic beverages) for commercial purposes.

"Therefore, we plan to make changes to these rules. Proposals have already been prepared and are under discussion."

"It is quite possible that the duty-free import limit will be reduced for a number of goods, and will be increased for some other goods. In addition, the duties can be revised," Babayev said.
