The P5+1-Iran ‘historic’ nuclear deal and lifting of sanction from Tehran has also promised to expand the Islamic Republic’s relations, especially the economic and trade ties with its neighbor.

Iran strives to enlarge the all-out ties with its northern neighbor Azerbaijan, which it has historic ties for centuries.

Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan Mohsen Pak Ayeen said the economic relations between Azerbaijan and Iran will expand in the near future.

“After the West’s sanctions are lifted, Iran will continue developing rapidly as it was before their imposition,” he told Trend on July 27.

He noted that in the near future the relations between Baku and Tehran will develop in the economic sphere.

Pak Ayeen said the countries with strong economy are interested in the development of relations with Iran.

"The visit of German vice-chancellor with a delegation consisting of 100 people to Iran can be cited as an example. Removing of unnecessary barriers creates a basis for strengthening the relations among Iran and all world’s countries, especially with friendly and fraternal Azerbaijan," he said.

He added that the UN Security Council’s recent resolution demonstrates the determination of the world’s countries to participate in the economic programs in Iran. “We consider this achievement as the success of all independent countries, in particular neighboring countries."

Azerbaijan and Iran have had diplomatic relations since 1918. Iran recognized Azerbaijan's independence in 1991 and diplomatic relations between the two countries were reestablished in 1992.

Currently, the two countries are focused on expanding their economic ties in various fields, including industry, agriculture, energy, alternative energy, and transportation.

In a view of expanding the economic ties, Iran’s Deputy Minister of Energy Houshang Falahatian intends to pay a visit to Azerbaijan.

Falahatian told Trend that the objectives of the upcoming visit are to complete the conducted work on the synchronization of energy systems of the two countries and to sign a new treaty in this area.

“The setting of electricity tariffs will be discussed at the meetings to be held in Azerbaijan. Previously Iran and Azerbaijan have distributed all work on the synchronization of energy systems among themselves,” he said.

Falahatian added that the power plants and transmission lines have been built.

“The infrastructure is fully ready. We hope that a final agreement will be reached and an agreement on the synchronization of the energy systems will be signed during this visit," he said.

Falahatian further said Iran informed the Azerbaijani side about its readiness to sign an agreement on the purchase of electric power in Azerbaijan after the synchronization of energy systems of the two countries.

He also noted that Azerbaijan has expressed interest in investing in Iran’s renewable energy, including the construction of geothermal power plants and we welcome this.

“Earlier, Iran officially announced the electricity tariffs, which will be generated at the new power plants. Moreover, the power plants guarantee the electricity provision for 20 years,” Falahatian said.

He stressed that Iran invites Azerbaijani investors to invest in Iran.

“By synchronizing their energy systems, Azerbaijan and Iran are creating the basis for the future electricity exchange with third countries, including Russia,” he said.

Noting that the electric power can be transferred between Iran and Azerbaijan on the territory of Azerbaijan, Falahatian said after the synchronization of energy systems of the two countries, Iran will be able to share power with Russia, and Azerbaijan through Iran – with Afghanistan and Iraq.

Earlier, Pak Ayeen said that the two countries agreed on the electricity transfer from Azerbaijan to Iraq and Afghanistan through Iran.
