New service for IMEI code check applied in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijani Communications and IT Ministry has launched a service to check IMEI-codes on mobile phones via SMS-request, senior consultant in the ministry's regulations department, Zakir Gasimov told.

According to Gasimov, an IMEI- code must be sent to the number "1677". The service is available to subscribers of all three mobile operators in Azerbaijan.

A new method of checking IMEI-codes protects users from buying a product that does not meet the quality standards as its further operation in Azerbaijani mobile networks may be impossible. The service cost is 0.30 AZN.

Currently, more than 13 million mobile phones are registered in the database of IMEI-codes of mobile phones in Azerbaijan.

Besides mobile phones, the system includes GSM devices (navigators, appliances, etc.).
