Azerbaijan eager to intensify economic co-op with Slovenia

Azerbaijan invites Slovenian businessmen to boost their trade ties with Baku, Rufat Mammadov, the head of the Azerbaijan Export and Investment Promotion Foundation (AZPROMO) said on October 22.

He made the remarks at the Azerbaijan-Slovenia Business Forum. It was the fifth forum organized by AZPROMO.

Noting that Azerbaijan is an attractive country for foreign investors, Mammadov informed the Slovenian delegation about Azerbaijan's achievements.

He then thanked the Slovenian businessmen for their investments in Azerbaijan's large-scale projects.

Bostjan Skalar, the acting director of the Slovenian Public Agency of Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Development, Investment, and Tourism (SPIRIT) also said that the two countries have great potential to expand bilateral economic cooperation.

Azerbaijani and Slovenian representatives active in different fields such as tourism, banking, energy, information, communication and technology, construction, real estate, defense, security, consulting, education participated in the forum.

The last Azerbaijan-Slovenia business forum was held in Baku in January 2013, when AZPROMO and SPIRIT signed a memorandum of understanding.

Based on the reports released by the State Customs Committee, the trade turnover between the two countries in January-August 2013 amounted to $8.47 million. Azerbaijan's imports accounted for $8.46 million of the mentioned figure, which is 2.35 times more tan the same period in 2012.

Currently about seven Slovenian companies operate in Azerbaijan.
