Azerbaijan chief shareholder in Georgia's gas import

Georgia imported some 812,250 tons of natural gas from Azerbaijan in January-August 2013, which amounted to $142.45 million, according to a report from the GruzStat (Georgian National Statistical Service).

Azerbaijan is the main supplier of this kind of fuel to the country with a specific weight of 81.23 per cent of Georgia's total volume of imports in this category. According to the report, in total, Georgia imported $175.36 million worth of natural gas in January-August 2013.

In an annual calculation, the volume of natural gas imported by Georgia from Azerbaijan increased by 17.93 per cent (quantitatively - by 2.01 per cent or 15,920 tons). For comparison: Georgia imported 796.280 tons of fuel from Azerbaijan in the first eight months of 2012 which amounted to $120.79 million.

The specific weight of natural gas amounted to 38.23 per cent in the total volume of imports from Azerbaijan to Georgia during the reported period.

Georgia imported $372.57 million worth of products from Azerbaijan in January-August 2013. The volume of imports from Azerbaijan to Georgia decreased by 10 per cent during the reported period compared to the same period of 2012. For comparison: Georgia imported $413.96 million worth of products from Azerbaijan in January-August 2012.
