Ukrainian Airlines starts operating in Azerbaijan

A press-conference devoted to the start of operation of the Ukraine International Airlines (UIA) in Azerbaijan was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel of Baku.

The press conference was attended by Ukrainian ambassador to Azerbaijan Alexander Mishenko, President of Ukrainian “UIA” air company Y. Miroshnikov and vice-president S. Fomenko, as well as director of tour agency “Delta group”, general agent of UIA in Azerbaijan E. Mammadov and representatives of the Azerbaijani Airlines “AZAL”.

Ukrainian International Airlines (UIA) has come to Azerbaijan because of the bankruptcy of Ukraine` largest carrier AeroSvit - Ukrainian Airlines (AeroSvit).

The Economic Court of Kyiv region opened the procedure of the bankruptcy of largest Ukrainian carrier AeroSvit based on the Company`s statement and imposed a moratorium on satisfaction of creditors` claims.

As of 27 December 2012 the airline had debts to creditors in the amount of $534 million with book value of $183 million. Consideration of the bankruptcy of the company is scheduled for 23 January 2013.

Earlier, AeroSvit began transfer of its own directions to UIA. It has been already re-registered part of the summer schedule of flights, including the ones to Azerbaijan.
