'Shah Deniz II project investment program to be clarified in mid- 2013'

“Shah Deniz II project that will transport Azerbaijani natural gas to Europe via Turkey, investment program will be clarified in June, 2013,” Hakan Turker, BP-Turkey Vice President told journalists.

The Vice President noted that 37 bln dollar is required for transportation of Shah Deniz gas to Europe. Some $ 25 billion is required for the construction of Trans-Anatolian Pipeline in the Azerbaijani area, $ 2 billion in Georgia and $10 billion in Turkish area.

“Shah Deniz II project will open the southern gas corridor and for the first time natural gas will be transported from the Caspian Sea to Europe," he said. Turker noted that by implementation this project Turkey will become an energy center. Shah Deniz project plays an important role in meeting Turkish demand for natural gas. At the same time “Eastern corridor” will be “Europe`s backbone”.

Saying that Shah Deniz project is one of the world`s biggest gas projects Turker said that the first gas delivery via TANAP is expected to be at the end of 2017.

“Offshore terminals and three pipelines will be construed within the project. At the initial stage 16 billion cubic meters of gas will be transported via TANAP. Some 6 billion cubic meters of this volume will be sold to Turkey, while will be sent to Europe via Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP),” the BP-Turkey VP added.
