Azerbaijan can be major electricity exporter

In the future, Azerbaijan can export eight to ten billion kilowatt / hours of electricity annually, the department head of the Azerbaijani Ministry of Industry and Energy Tahir Jafarov said at a conference on 'Energy Efficiency: Economic and institutional aspects and perspectives'.

"The potential for the electricity export of Azerbaijan to Europe will amount to 650-1200 megawatts," Jafarov said.

In his words, at present, the power grid capacity of Azerbaijan is 6400 megawatts. Some five billion cubic meters of gas are directed to electricity production of the country every year.
