
The construction of a 150-meter-long bridge over Girkhbulaq river (Georgian border) has been completed as part of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project.
As part of the project a 4,35-kilometer long tunnel will also be constructed soon on Turkish-Georgian border. According to Azeryolservis OJSC, the construction works on Akhalkalaki segment of BTK are underway on schedule.
The Kars–Tbilisi–Baku railway, or Kars-Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi-Baku railway, is a regional rail link project to directly connect Turkey, Georgia and Azerbaijan. The project is scheduled for completion by 2014. The key objective of the project is to improve economic relations between the three countries and gaining foreign direct investment by connecting Europe and Asia.
