Azerbaijani businesswomen join Istanbul summit

14 November 2012 [09:55] - TODAY.AZ
Twenty Azerbaijani women businessmen have attended an international summit in Istanbul, Turkey, organized by the Women Entrepreneurs Association of Turkey (KAGIDER).

According to the National Confederation of Entrepreneurs Organizations of Azerbaijan (ASK), the event aimed to determine the role of women entrepreneurs in their local communities and to learn about innovative ways women entrepreneurs can grow their businesses.

Speaking at the event, KAGIDER`s President Gulden Turktan hailed the role of women in the world economy.

“Women now drive the world economy. Globally, they control about $20 trillion in annual consumer spending, and that figure could climb as high as $28 trillion in next five years. There is compelling evidence that women can be powerful drivers of economic growth,” she said.
According to Turktan, the number of working women is 1 billion and this figure can reach 1.2 billion in next five years.

Azerbaijani businesswoman Jalya Hajiyeva highlighted conditions created in Azerbaijan for female entrepreneurs. The Women Entrepreneurs Association of Turkey (KAGIDER) was founded in Istanbul in 2002 by 38 business women who wanted to develop intrepreneurship among women in order to strengthen their economic and social status.

KAGIDER`s vision is to create a world in which women play an effective role in decision-making processes and are able to chose and create the life they want to live. The organisation`s activities focus around female empowerment. They organise training sessions, mentorship programs, consultancies and campaigns to boost female entrepreneurship and employment.
