Baku Metro, Akkord-Bouygues Joint Venture sign MoU - PHOTOS

According to the “State Program on Development of Baku Metro during 2011-2015” approved by Azerbaijani President’s order dated March 18, 2011, Baku Metro and Akkord- Bouygues JV signed on November 7, 2012 a Memorandum of Understanding within the framework of the Baku Metro Development Project which envisages reconstruction of May 28th station and construction of the new “green line” Khatayi-Hazi Aslanov-2 section (a 7 km long tunnel and 3 new stations).

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed on behalf of the Baku Metro by Mr. Tagi Ahmadov, Chief of the Baku Metro and on behalf of “Akkord-Bouygues” JV by Mr. Khagani Guluzade, Chairman of the Board of Directors, General Director of “Akkord Industry Construction Investment Corporation” OJSC and Mr. Jean-Denis Arnal, Executive Director of the French Company “Bouygues Travaux Publics”.

Note that as early as on June 29, 2011 the Memorandum of Understanding signed between Akkord Corporation and Bouygues Travaux Publics provided for a joint participation and initial terms of participation in infrastructure projects to be realized in Azerbaijan as well as in construction of new metro lines and stations in the city of Baku.

“Bouygues Travaus Publics” Company is a part of “Bouygues Group”, which is one of the world’s largest financial and industrial groups. “Bouygues Group” was established in 1952 and currently by diversifying its activities operates as one of the largest industrial groups of the world. It is also one of the largest companies of France.

Apart from successful activity that “Bouygues Group” carries out in the Eastern and Western Europe, Middle East and Africa, Asian-Pacific region, it also entered new markets in North America (the USA and Canada).

Bouygeus Group consists of the following companies:

•    “Bouygues Construction” - construction and building works, construction of metro and energy facilities, etc;
•    “Bouygues Immobilier” – construction of residential and commercial facilities;
•    “Colas” – road construction;
•    “Bouygues Telecom” – communication services;
•    “TF1” – TV channel.
The annual turnover of Bouygues Group totaled 32.7 bln Euros in 2011.
Metro construction and infrastructure projects are mainly implemented by Bouygues Travaux Publics, subsidiary company of Boygues Construction.

Information about some projects:

•    Cairo metro line (Egypt) – a 13km long tunnel, 10 underground metro stations – total cost 807 mln Euros;
•    A tunnel paved below the English channel – Euro Tunnel;
•    Sidney metro line (Australia) – a 9km long – total cost – 534 mln. Euros;
•    Shanghai metro lines (China);
•    Miami (Florida) metro line (USA);
•    Amsterdam-Rotterdam-Antwerp (the Netherlands) high speed railway line – an 8 km. long tunnel worth 425 mln. Euros;
•    Sheung Shui Tunnel Line (Hong Kong, China) – 5 km - total cost – 350 mln. Euros;
•    Nuclear Power Plant – Flamanville (France) – total cost 533 mln. Euros;
•    Gas Compressor Station – Damiette (Egypt) – total cost 82 mln. Euros;

Total length of tunnel lines constructed by the company worldwide exceeds 350 km. The company possesses special TBM equipment required for metro construction.
