Aztelekom prepares project to develop broadband internet

Aztelekom Production Association of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan has prepared the next phase of the development of broadband Internet for 2013-15 year, the PA said on Thursday.

Optic lines with length of 514 kilometers were laid in 17 telecommunications nodes (TKN) of the PA through the efforts of seven private providers involved in the project in the frame of the first phase.

Connecting lines in 12 of 17 telecommunications nodes of state operator are transferred to the optical line.

Total of 1,700 kilometers of optic lines were laid since the realization of the project.

Today, the number of broadband connections in the network of Aztelekom production association exceeds 102,000 units, more than double the figure at the beginning of the year.

The volume of broadband internet services increased by 75 percent as of September. Revenues from broadband services amounted to 18.5 percent in the total income structure of the PA from the beginning of the year, which is 9.8 percent more compared to last year.
