'Azerbaijan's proven gas reserves exceed 2.5 trillion cu. m.'

18 September 2012 [17:44] - TODAY.AZ
Caspian gas will be sufficient to fill gas transportation infrastructure to ensure gas supply to Europe, Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister Natig Aliyev said during the Oil, Gas and Media conference in Baku on Tuesday.

"In this case the question is about the gas not only from Azerbaijan, but also from Turkmenistan, which seeks to ensure access of its own gas to Europe," Aliyev said.

In particular, Aliyev said at present Azerbaijan's proven gas reserves exceed 2.5 trillion cubic meters, in Turkmenistan - 7 trillion cubic meters.

Transportation of gas from Central Asia, in particular from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan could become reality by constructing Trans-Caspian gas pipeline, which could be one of the links of the "Southern Gas Corridor".

Accordingly, this will enable Azerbaijan to become a transit country along with exporting country.

Work is underway to create Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline that will ensure Azerbaijani gas to reach Europe's borders and will enable the country to turn into direct supplier of its own gas to the European market.
