Mobile number portability service to be applied in October

Mobile number portability (MNP) will be introduced in Azerbaijan in October, Azerfon CEO Jurgen Peetz told reporters on Monday.

He said that this is a period determined by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology during which all three mobile operators - Azercell, Bakcell and Azerfon are instructed to prepare the necessary infrastructure for the simultaneous introduction of the service.

The mobile number portability project is under the authority of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technologies of Azerbaijan.

Operators are instructed to apply a 10-digit set of subscriber numbers. In accordance with this rule, prior to the station number, it will be necessary to dial a prefix operator (050, 051, 055, 070 and 077) then a seven-digit phone number.

The introduction of MNP services will allow mobile users in the event of a change of operator to retain their phone number. Number portability means full migration of subscriber numbers with the selected operator prefix.
