Azerbaijani gas supply to Turkey, carried out via the South Caucasus gas pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum), will be resumed by Friday (June 8), President of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), Rovnag Abdullayev told journalists on Wednesday.
An explosion on the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline took place on May 29 in the Kars city. The cause of the explosion is unknown yet. However, as Botas said, technical work was carried out on this section of the gas pipeline, which could have led to the subsequent explosion.
Turkey has a contract to supply 6.6 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas per year from the 'Shah Deniz' field via the South Caucasus gas pipeline. Prior to suspension of oil pumping via the pipeline, about 12 million cubic meters of gas was supplied per day on average.
