Transport Ministry prepares for Eurovision 2012

The Azerbaijani Transport Ministry has provided official delegations with 91 vehicles for Eurovision-2012, the ministry said on Monday.

According to the report, 43 units of the total number of vehicles are of brand Neoplan, 43 - brand BMW, and the remaining five units - Mercedes Sprinter. All vehicles are equipped with online monitoring.

"Five Mercedes Sprinter vehicles are provided to ensure the transportation of organizing committee members and volunteers" the report said.

There are two Neoplan cars, 17 BMW cars and 25 Mercedes Sprinter as a reserve. Some 178 drivers who were trained and accredited are attracted to work during the contest. All vehicles have passed a special inspection.

Central headquarters is created under the ministry, and Call Center is created at Baku Business Center.

Nine permanent bus routes under the index "E" is provided for transportation of accredited journalists and fans and the viewers in the day of the semi-finals and final. Bus routes under E2, E3 and E4 index cover hotels, where foreign journalists and fans of the contest stay.

Also operate around the clock control centers, which are designed to serve the shuttle buses under the index E. Bus stops are equipped with information boards and signs.

The competition involved the following vehicles: 154buses and 50 vans, 60 BMW, 1,700 taxis (1,000 of them are London Taxi), and five trucks. There are 217 routes in Baku route network and 2800 busses operating on the routes. Buses will operate until 5 a.m. during the events. Baku International Bus Station will operate in enhanced mode.

All the taxies involved are equipped with taximeters. Some 750 London Taxi has been already equipped with POS-terminals with POS-terminals, the equipment of remaining 250 vehicleswill be completed by May 18. Some 39 taxi stops are defined. Sixty taxies will operate on the territory of Heydar Aliyev International Airport. Dispatch center was created in order to coordinate the work of the taxies.

Total of 60 kilometers of roads of the city is repaired; 40,000 meters
of road curbs are replaced.

Definite Baku-Tbilisi tourist train schedule is also agreed with the Georgian side. Reservations for Baku-Tbilisi train are provided. The railway stations of Baku, Sumgait and Ganja has the necessary information in Azerbaijani, Russian and English languages, the sounding board is also provided. Tickets selling are provided in electronic and non-cash form (using POS-terminals).
