Azerbaijan joins European Gas Conference 2012

Representative of the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SAM) Gulmira Rzayeva is attending the fifth European Gas Conference in Vienna, Austria.

The conference co-organized by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth, Austrian Government and “The Energy Exchange Ltd” company has brought together 280 representatives from 27 countries. The conference focuses on security of European energy supply, importance of diversification of routes, European gas policy and other issues.

“Recent development on Southern Gas Corridor: What is Azerbaijani standpoint on the pipeline proposals and the South East European gas market?” report by the research fellow of SAM Rzayeva was heard in the first day of the event. “Where will Azeri gas go and how will it get there?”, “Which of the proposed projects will win the race to transport Azeri gas to Europe?”, “What is the European Commission doing to assist the development of the Southern Corridor project?”, “Understand the geopolitical implications of Europe’s last great gas frontier” questions were debated during the session.

The conference which will last till January 27 saw discussions on “Keynote commercial address: Ensuring natural gas is the main energy source for the future”, “Geopolitical developments in the natural gas market domestically and internationally and the impact on commercial strategy”, and other topics in the first day.
